Some careers follow a straight line. Faryal’s followed a creative arc — from digital illustration in Karachi to a Master’s degree with honours from Rome, and now to one of Pakistan’s most exciting fintech platforms as Senior Manager Marketing at ABHI Microfinance Bank.
The announcement, shared personally on LinkedIn, captured the spirit of the moment perfectly. “A new chapter, in a familiar space.”
Four Years That Built Something Real
Faryal joined Abhi (YC S21) — the Y Combinator-backed Pakistani fintech — in February 2022 as Creative Manager, a role she held for four years and five months. During that tenure, she described building countless ideas and bringing them to life alongside a team she speaks of with genuine warmth and gratitude.
“Grateful for everything the past few years have taught me, the people I’ve had the opportunity to work with, and the countless ideas I’ve had the chance to bring to life,” she wrote.
Now she steps into the role of Senior Manager, Marketing at ABHI Microfinance Bank — a natural progression that keeps her within the ABHI ecosystem while expanding her leadership scope and responsibility.
A Career Built on Creative Depth
What makes Faryal’s professional story compelling is the creative foundation underneath every role she has held.
She began her career as a Digital Artist at Kreative Sparks in Karachi in 2015. She then spent over two years as a Digital Illustrator and Animator at Creative Chaos before joining MullenLowe Group — one of Pakistan’s most respected advertising networks — where she progressed from Animator to Senior Animator over two years.
From there, she moved into digital leadership at Waggles Pet Foods, then into Assistant Manager Marketing at Bank Alfalah — one of Pakistan’s largest private banks — where she spent a year building her financial sector marketing credentials before making the move to Abhi.
Every stop added a layer. Animation gave her visual storytelling. Advertising gave her brand thinking. Banking gave her financial sector understanding. Fintech gave her the intersection of all three.
Master’s Degree With Honours From Rome
Alongside her professional journey, Faryal completed a Master’s degree in Design and Visual Communications at Sapienza Università di Roma — one of Italy’s most prestigious universities — graduating with a grade of 110 with Honours, the highest possible distinction in the Italian academic system.
Her undergraduate foundation is equally strong. She holds a Bachelor’s in Media Sciences with a specialization in Animation, Interactive Technology, Video Graphics and Special Effects from Iqra University, graduating with a GPA of 3.7 — during which she was also active in sports and fine art, including mural painting and traditional animation.
She describes herself with characteristic understatement as someone with a keen interest in animation, both traditional and 2D, a recent gamer, and someone who loves to read and draw in her own time. That creative inner life has clearly fuelled a professional outer one.
