Pakistan is observing the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the martyrs of Karbala today with deep reverence, as mourning processions and religious gatherings take place across the country under heightened security.
Major processions have begun in Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Hyderabad, Faisalabad, Quetta, Peshawar, and other cities, where devotees are paying tribute to the grandson of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the martyrs of Karbala.
Authorities have deployed a large number of police and security personnel to ensure peaceful observances and prevent any untoward incidents. In Karachi, the main Chehlum procession will commence from Nishtar Park, with roads leading to the procession route sealed using containers. M.A. Jinnah Road has also been closed to traffic.
In Islamabad, the central Chehlum procession concluded at the Imambargah Asna Ashari in G-6. In Lahore, the main procession is scheduled to begin from Haveli Alif Shah inside Delhi Gate and conclude at Karbala Gamay Shah. Peshawar’s central procession started from Imambargah Hussainia Hall in Saddar.
Special security measures have also been enforced in other cities. Mobile phone services have been suspended in selected areas of Quetta, while Section 144 has been imposed in Hyderabad. A ban on pillion riding is also in effect in Hyderabad and several nearby districts.
The annual Chehlum commemorates the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions in the Battle of Karbala, observed by millions of Muslims worldwide.
