MUZAFFARABAD: A Rangers soldier was killed and three police personnel were injured after members of a banned Joint Awami Action Committee allegedly attacked a security post in Rawalakot following the successful conclusion of elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), according to police.
Police officials said the incident occurred at around 10:00 p.m. when members of the banned organization allegedly attempted to march toward Rawalakot. Security forces intercepted the procession on the outskirts of the city, where the situation reportedly turned violent.
During the clash, attackers allegedly targeted a security checkpoint, resulting in the martyrdom of Rangers soldier Ali Raza. Three police officers also sustained injuries during the violence.
Authorities further claimed that the attackers set fire to one Rangers vehicle and one police vehicle before the situation was brought under control.
Law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation into the incident and are working to identify and apprehend those involved. Officials stated that security measures have been tightened in the area to prevent any further unrest.
The incident comes shortly after the completion of the AJK elections and has raised fresh concerns over security and public order in the region.
