RAWALPINDI: A customs official was killed and another seriously injured after unidentified gunmen opened fire on a customs vehicle near the Rawalpindi Interchange Toll Plaza on Friday.
According to police, the attackers sprayed the vehicle with bullets, leaving one official dead at the scene while the other sustained critical injuries. The intense gunfire also caused the vehicle to catch fire.
Rescue teams and a heavy police contingent rushed to the site. Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control, while the deceased and the injured official were shifted to DHQ Hospital.
The deceased customs officer was identified as Jawad, while the injured official was identified as Baseer Ullah.
Police said an investigation has been launched, and efforts are underway to identify and arrest the attackers. The motive behind the attack has not yet been disclosed.
