The Lahore High Court (LHC) has introduced a new subsidy scheme for judicial officers across Punjab. The program will allow eligible judges to purchase their official vehicles at heavily discounted prices.
The initiative is expected to benefit nearly 2,000 judicial officers. Court officials say the move is designed to improve employee welfare and recognize the services of judges working in the province.
Lahore High Court Announces Welfare Initiative
The LHC administration has described the program as an important welfare measure for the subordinate judiciary.
Under the scheme, judges will have the option to purchase the government vehicles currently assigned to them. Officials believe this will provide long-term financial relief while improving convenience for judicial officers.
Thousands of Judicial Officers Covered
The subsidy program covers a large section of Punjab’s judicial workforce.
Eligible officers include District and Sessions Judges, Additional District and Sessions Judges, Senior Civil Judges, Civil Judges, Family Judges and Judicial Magistrates. Around 2,000 officers are expected to benefit from the initiative.
Popular Official Vehicles Available
Judicial officers will be able to purchase the government vehicles already allotted for official use.
The available vehicles include the Suzuki Alto, Toyota Corolla and Honda City. Depending on the model, prices will range between Rs250,000 and Rs350,000, making them much cheaper than market rates.
Special Court Judges Included
The scheme is not limited to judges serving in regular district courts.
It also includes officers working in Anti-Terrorism Courts, Accountability Courts, Banking Courts, FIA Special Courts, Anti-Narcotics Courts, Customs Courts and Labor Courts across Punjab.
Officers on Deputation Can Also Apply
The program also extends to judicial officers currently serving outside Punjab on deputation.
Those working at the Islamabad High Court, the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the Constitutional Court and various federal or provincial ministries will also qualify under the same subsidy policy.
Clear Deadline for Applications
The Directorate General of District Judiciary has issued detailed implementation instructions.
Eligible officers have been directed to submit pay orders in favor of the Registrar of the Lahore High Court by July 22, 2026. Officials have advised applicants to complete the process before the deadline to avoid delays.
Vehicles Already Used for Official Duties
The vehicles included in the program are already being used by judges for official transport.
Once payment is completed, ownership of the vehicles will be transferred to the eligible judicial officers. Until then, the vehicles will continue to serve official purposes.
Large Judicial Workforce to Benefit
Punjab has one of Pakistan’s largest judicial systems.
Official figures show the subordinate judiciary includes 147 District and Sessions Judges, around 500 Additional District and Sessions Judges and nearly 1,000 Senior Civil Judges. Civil Judges, Family Judges and Judicial Magistrates are also part of the workforce covered by the scheme.
Detailed Circular Issued Across Punjab
The Lahore High Court has issued a 74-page circular explaining the subsidy program.
The circular has been sent to all District and Sessions Judges across Punjab. It contains detailed instructions for implementing the scheme and completing the purchase process.
Positive Response From Judicial Community
The announcement has reportedly received a positive response from members of the judiciary.
Many judicial officers welcomed the opportunity to own their official vehicles at affordable prices. Reports also suggest that several judges and court employees have already visited banks to arrange the required pay orders.
Financial Relief for Judicial Officers
Legal experts believe the program could reduce transportation costs for judges.
Instead of depending on government transport throughout their careers, officers will have the chance to own reliable vehicles at significantly lower prices. This is expected to improve convenience and provide long-term financial value.
Step Towards Better Employee Welfare
Experts say welfare programmes play an important role in improving workplace satisfaction.
They believe the latest initiative reflects the Lahore High Court’s commitment to supporting judicial officers and strengthening the judicial system through better employee benefits.
More Administrative Reforms May Follow
Observers expect similar welfare measures to be introduced in the future.
If the program is implemented successfully, it could encourage additional reforms aimed at improving working conditions and administrative efficiency within Punjab’s judiciary. Such initiatives may also strengthen confidence among judicial officers and support better public service delivery.
