MASTUNG, Pakistan: Two young cricket players were shot dead after unidentified gunmen opened fire during a cricket match in Balochistan’s Mastung district on Wednesday, police said.
The incident occurred at a cricket ground near Shamsabad Cross, where a local match was underway. According to police, the victims were identified as Ayush and Sagar.
The sudden gunfire triggered panic among players and spectators, who fled the ground to save their lives. Police and other law enforcement personnel rushed to the scene, secured the area, and shifted the bodies to a nearby hospital for legal formalities.
Authorities have launched an investigation and begun collecting evidence. The attackers managed to escape after the shooting, and no arrests have been reported so far.
Following the incident, the victims’ relatives staged a protest by blocking the Quetta–Karachi National Highway. The road was later reopened after successful negotiations with the district administration.
