KHAIRPUR: At least 22 people, including several children, fell unconscious after allegedly consuming contaminated milk in the Pir Goth area of Sindh’s Khairpur district, according to police.
The affected individuals were rushed to a local hospital after their condition suddenly deteriorated. Police said the victims belong to Shahi Bazaar, Bachal Colony, Kachi Abadi, and nearby neighborhoods.
Preliminary investigations suggest that all of the affected people had consumed milk purchased from the same local dairy shop. Authorities said the vendor also supplies milk directly to homes in the area.
According to initial reports, a dead lizard was allegedly found in one batch of the distributed milk, raising concerns that the milk may have been contaminated. Officials have not yet confirmed the exact cause, and laboratory testing is expected to determine whether the milk was toxic.
The victims include Areeba, Mujeeb, Nisar Ahmed, Abdul Sami, Abdul Samad, Uzra, Shakeelan, Muhammad Saleem, Ameen Ali, Aiza Malik, Ahmed Malik, Faqeer Muhammad Malik, his wife, and several others.
Police said eight of the affected children remain in critical condition, while an investigation is underway to determine the source of the contamination and whether negligence was involved. Authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation until the investigation is complete.
