Punjab has introduced a new evidence-based traffic challan system, starting in Lahore and extending across the province, to make traffic enforcement more transparent and accountable.
According to DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir, every traffic challan will now be supported by photographic and video evidence captured at the time of the violation. The evidence will be securely attached to each challan, allowing motorists to verify the reason for the fine.
Citizens will receive an alert via SMS from 8070 whenever a traffic challan is issued. The message will include a link that enables recipients to view the video and image evidence related to the alleged traffic violation.
Officials said the new system will be implemented through the Traffic Police One App, allowing officers to issue challans digitally with supporting evidence. The initiative has been launched under the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to ensure fair, transparent, and evidence-based enforcement.
Traffic police believe the new mechanism will reduce disputes between motorists and officers, save time for both parties, and strengthen legal action against those who fail to pay traffic fines by relying on documented evidence.
