Senior Pakistan Customs officer Kanwal Ali has assumed the additional role of Director Communications and Public Relations, while continuing to serve as Director NNDA at Pakistan Customs Islamabad.
ISLAMABAD: Senior Pakistan Customs officer Kanwal Ali has assumed the additional charge of Director Communications and Public Relations at the Directorate of Communications and PR, Pakistan Customs, Islamabad.
Alongside her new assignment, she will continue serving as Director, National Nuclear Detection Architecture (NNDA) at Pakistan Customs.
Announcing the development, Kanwal Ali said she was “honoured” to take on the new responsibility and expressed her commitment to strengthening public trust and promoting transparent communication.
“I join my new assignment with gratitude, humility, and a steadfast commitment to advancing dialogue, strengthening public trust, and communicating with integrity,” she stated.
She further described every new responsibility as “an invitation to serve with greater purpose” and said she was excited about the journey ahead.
Kanwal Ali brings with her over two decades of experience in customs administration, taxation, intelligence, trade facilitation, training, and public policy. During her career with Pakistan Customs and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), she has held several key positions across Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Multan, and Karachi.
Her recent roles include Director NNDA Customs Islamabad, Director at Pakistan Customs, and Additional Director at the Directorate General of Intelligence & Investigation FBR Islamabad. She has also served in senior positions related to Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement, Post Clearance Audit, anti-smuggling operations, customs intelligence, and customs training and research.

Internationally, she was selected as a Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow for 2014-15 at the Evans School of Public Policy & Governance, University of Washington, where she studied Public Policy Analysis and Administration under the prestigious Fulbright program. During her fellowship in the United States, she also worked with the Washington Council on International Trade and completed a professional affiliation with the Consulate General of Pakistan in Los Angeles.
Academically, Kanwal Ali holds an MBA in Tax Management, Finance, Accounting, and HR from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi, and a Master’s degree in English Literature from the University of the Punjab. She has also completed the 39th Senior Management Course at the National Institute of Public Administration, Islamabad, along with the Mid Career Management Course at the National Institute of Management, Lahore.
Her appointment is being viewed as a significant step towards enhancing strategic communication, stakeholder engagement, and public outreach efforts within Pakistan Customs.
