LAHORE — One of Lahore’s most popular coffee chains among Gen Z, Double Shot, has suddenly shut down operations indefinitely after tax authorities sealed several of its outlets, triggering shock and frustration across social media.
Known for its aesthetic cafés, trendy crowd, and viral coffee culture, Double Shot has become a go-to hangout spot for students, influencers, and young professionals in Lahore. But over the weekend, customers arriving for their usual iced lattes and coffee meetups were met with sealed entrances instead.
According to reports, Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) officials carried out an operation against the café chain over alleged tax-related violations, resulting in the closure of outlets across multiple locations.
The shutdown instantly became a trending topic online, with many young Lahoris joking that the city had “lost an emotional support system.” Memes, reactions, and nostalgic posts flooded Instagram, X, and TikTok as loyal customers reacted to the sudden closure.
Double Shot had built a strong Gen Z following through its modern café interiors, social-media-friendly branding, and late-night coffee culture. For many university students and freelancers, the café was seen less as a coffee shop and more as a daily workspace and social hub.
Authorities have not confirmed when the cafés may reopen, while the chain has yet to announce a timeline for resuming operations.
For now, Lahore’s coffee-loving Gen Z is left asking one question:
“Where do we go now?”
