US President Donald Trump has reportedly told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Washington will not take part in any retaliatory military action against Iran if Israel proceeds with such plans, according to Israeli media.
The reported phone conversation came after recent Iranian attacks, during which Netanyahu is said to have informed Trump of Israel’s intention to respond militarily.
Trump, however, made it clear that the United States would not be involved in any such strike.
In a separate interview with the Financial Times, Trump said Netanyahu “has no choice” but to accept a potential agreement with Iran.
He added that recent Iranian attacks have not changed Washington’s desire to continue diplomatic efforts.
When asked what would happen if negotiations fail, Trump suggested that a commando-style operation against Iran could still be considered.
