RAWALAKOT: Four police personnel were killed and more than 20 others injured after armed members of a banned action committee allegedly opened fire on security officials in Rawalakot, according to Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Police.
Inspector General of AJK Police said the attackers directly targeted law enforcement personnel who were on duty. He stated that the martyred and injured officers sustained firearm and gunshot wounds during the incident.
The police chief described the violence as far beyond a peaceful political protest, alleging that armed elements attacked law enforcement agencies as well as a medical facility. He termed the reported attack on the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Rawalakot an act of terrorism.
Authorities said they would not allow armed groups to disrupt peace in Azad Kashmir or hold the state system hostage. The IG emphasized that ensuring public safety and maintaining law and order remain top priorities.
Meanwhile, the AJK Police spokesperson paid tribute to the fallen officers, praising their sacrifice and commitment to protecting the public.
