FAISALABAD: Four workers lost their lives after being exposed to toxic gas while cleaning a sewer line in the FIEDMC Industrial Area of Faisalabad, rescue officials confirmed on Friday.
According to rescue authorities, the workers were carrying out cleaning operations inside a newly constructed 18-foot-deep sewer line when they were suddenly overcome by poisonous fumes. All four workers died at the scene.
The deceased were identified as Riffatullah, Kifayatullah, Hassan, and Dilawar. Rescue teams launched an operation and recovered the bodies from the sewer line before shifting them to Allied Hospital for legal and medical formalities.
Following the incident, Deputy Commissioner Nadeem Nasir took notice and formed a six-member inquiry committee to investigate the tragedy. He stated that action would be taken against those found responsible in light of the committee’s findings.
The deputy commissioner also expressed condolences to the families of the deceased workers and assured them that a thorough investigation would be conducted.
