GUJRANWALA: In a development that has left citizens asking whether criminals now operate with an “all-inclusive package,” two robbers allegedly crossed every conceivable line after stopping a 47-year-old rickshaw driver on his way home.
According to the FIR, the victim had just completed a night’s work and was returning home when he was intercepted by two armed suspects riding a donkey cart — a detail that has stunned observers who believed criminals had at least upgraded to motorcycles by now.
The suspects allegedly robbed the man of cash, a mobile phone and even the rickshaw battery. For most people, that would have been the end of a terrible night. Unfortunately, according to the complaint, the criminals reportedly decided that simple robbery was not enough and allegedly committed an even more serious offence before fleeing.
Police have registered a case, while the complainant’s identity has been withheld under anti-rape laws.
The incident has triggered outrage and renewed questions about public safety.
Social commentators noted that the story exposes a troubling reality: when a middle-aged man returning from work is allegedly unable to travel safely, what confidence can women, girls and other vulnerable citizens have about their own security?
In a country where citizens already worry about inflation, unemployment, electricity bills and potholes, many now feel they must also wonder whether criminals are competing for a national award in creative lawlessness.
Analysts say the case is less about one victim and more about a society where criminals increasingly appear fearless while ordinary citizens are advised to remain vigilant, carry emergency contacts, avoid deserted roads, stay alert, and perhaps, judging by recent events, avoid donkey carts altogether.
The real punchline, unfortunately, is not a joke. It is the uncomfortable question many citizens are asking: if people cannot travel home safely after a day’s work, who exactly is safe?
