A shocking case of medical negligence has surfaced in Faisalabad, where a pair of surgical scissors was allegedly left inside a patient’s chest during an open-heart surgery at the Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology.
According to the hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Dr. Nadeem, the patient 22-year-old Saqlain from Toba Tek Singh underwent heart surgery at the institute. However,
due to alleged negligence by the nursing staff, surgical scissors remained inside his body after the operation.
The patient reportedly suffered severe pain for nearly three weeks before doctors discovered the mistake and performed another surgery to remove the scissors.
Dr. Nadeem stated that an internal inquiry found the nursing staff responsible for failing to complete the mandatory counting of surgical instruments after the procedure, calling it a serious act of negligence.
The services of the two staff nurses involved have been terminated, while a formal report has also been sent to the Health Secretary for further disciplinary action.
