Iranian authorities have dismissed growing speculation about the health of the country’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, saying he is “safe and sound” despite circulating reports that he was injured during the ongoing war with Israel and the United States.
The clarification came from Yousef Pezeshkian, the son of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who addressed the rumors in a message posted on his Telegram channel on Wednesday.
“I heard news that Mr. Mojtaba Khamenei had been injured. I asked some friends who had connections, and they told me that, thank God, he is safe and sound,” Pezeshkian wrote.
Injury speculation spreads during war
The rumors surfaced amid the escalating conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, fueling widespread speculation about the safety of key Iranian leadership figures.
State television had earlier referred to Khamenei as a “wounded veteran of the Ramadan war,” a phrase that triggered confusion and prompted reports suggesting he had been hurt during the fighting.
However, Iranian state media did not provide details about the alleged injury, leaving the claim open to interpretation.
No official confirmation of injury
Despite the wording used on state television, Iranian officials have not confirmed any injury to the supreme leader.
The latest statement from Pezeshkian appears aimed at calming speculation as the conflict continues to dominate regional headlines and raise concerns about the stability of Iran’s leadership.
The war, which has drawn intense global attention, has triggered heavy military exchanges and political tensions across the Middle East, while analysts closely monitor developments within Iran’s leadership circle.
