A major development shook Pakistan’s political and military landscape as former Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed was sentenced to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment after a long and detailed court-martial process under the Pakistan Army Act.
The proceedings began on 12 August 2024 and continued for 15 months, making it one of the most significant military trials in recent years. During the trial, four major charges were brought against him: involvement in political activities, violating the Official Secrets Act in ways that could harm national security, misuse of authority and government resources, and causing unlawful harm to certain individuals.
After months of hearings, evidence review, and legal arguments, the court found him guilty on all charges. The final verdict was officially announced on 11 December 2025.
According to ISPR, the Field General Court Martial followed all legal procedures. The accused was given his complete legal rights, including the freedom to choose his own defence team. Officials also confirmed that the convicted officer has the right to appeal the decision at the relevant legal forums.
However, this case is not fully closed yet. ISPR also stated that several other matters—such as alleged cooperation with political groups, creating political instability, and involvement in actions that contributed to unrest—are still under separate investigation.
This development marks a rare moment in Pakistan’s history, as such a high-ranking former military officer facing strict accountability is uncommon. The verdict highlights the seriousness of the charges and the strict nature of military law, which applies equally to all ranks without exception.
