On Monday, Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, the Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), addressed the media in Rawalpindi and revealed that the military had taken decisive action against an army officer of Lieutenant General rank and several others who failed in their duty to protect military installations on May 9.
During the press conference, Maj Gen Sharif expressed the concerns raised by the families of martyrs and all ranks of the army regarding the incidents that occurred on May 9, including the desecration of martyrs’ monuments in various parts of the country during the riots. He emphasized that these incidents demonstrated that what the enemies of Pakistan could not achieve was carried out by these miscreants.
The DG ISPR strongly condemned the May 9 incidents, labeling them as a dark chapter in Pakistan’s history and a significant conspiracy against the country. He stated that investigations into the violence were ongoing, with evidence related to the incidents being collected.
Maj Gen Sharif highlighted the continuous efforts of the Pakistan Army in eliminating terrorists from the country, mentioning that the families of the martyrs were rightfully concerned and demanding justice for those involved in the May 9 incidents.
He emphasized the importance of preserving the sanctity of martyrs’ memorials and questioned why soldiers should sacrifice their lives if such desecration occurs.
Expressing regret over the mayhem, the DG ISPR disclosed that the planning for the violent incidents had been underway for several months, with the people being manipulated by a malicious narrative.
He also mentioned the ongoing operation against terrorism and reassured the public that false propaganda aimed at political gain would not succeed in dividing the nation from its army.
Maj Gen Chaudhry paid tribute to the 95 officers and soldiers who lost their lives, asserting that the fight against terrorism would continue until all terrorists were eliminated. He reaffirmed the army’s commitment to making sacrifices for the defense and welfare of the country.
The DG ISPR emphasized that the events of May 9 would not be forgotten, and those responsible would not be forgiven. He assured that all individuals involved would be punished according to the Constitution and the law.
