TAIF, Saudi Arabia — In what experts are calling “the most confusing plot twist since Turkish soap operas started airing in Ramadan,” a Saudi first wife has donated 80% of her liver to save her husband’s second wife, instantly disrupting centuries of polite, mutually agreed silence between co-wives.
Noura Salem Al Shammari, 42, had reportedly spent years pretending Taghreed Awadh Al Saadi didn’t exist, even developing Olympic-level skills in walking past her in the same living room without making eye contact.
But when Taghreed’s health began failing due to severe kidney disease, Noura shocked her family by volunteering to donate the majority of her liver “for the sake of God,” and, according to inside sources, possibly “just to see what my husband will do now.”
Doctors confirmed the transplant was successful, leaving Taghreed healthy enough to continue sharing Noura’s husband, Majed Baldah Al Roqi, who now describes his household as “a live reality show that could make Netflix millions.”
Social media erupted, with Saudi Twitter users split between calling Noura “an angel of mercy” and asking, “Did she… did she just raise the bar for wife competitions?”
“I guess now I can’t just bake samosas for my husband’s other wife,” sighed one user. “I have to donate organs.”
Family therapists warn that while the gesture is unprecedented, it could set dangerous new expectations in polygamous households. “Next thing you know, wives will be swapping corneas just to stay relevant,” one counselor said.
Meanwhile, Taghreed has vowed to “cherish this gift forever,” though neighbors report she was last seen Googling “Can liver donors request repayment in jewelry?”
