Amanda Anisimova made history on Thursday by reaching her first-ever Grand Slam final at Wimbledon, defeating world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in a thrilling three-set match. The 23-year-old American won 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in a battle that lasted more than two and a half hours.
Before the match, Anisimova already had a strong record against Sabalenka, having won five of their eight previous matches. Although Sabalenka had beaten her in three of their last four meetings, Anisimova came into the match with confidence—and it showed. Despite it being her first Grand Slam semifinal, she played with calm and focus, especially in the final set.
With this victory, Anisimova becomes the third American woman to reach a Grand Slam final in 2025, after Madison Keys and Coco Gauff. Both Keys and Gauff went on to win their finals, and now Anisimova has the chance to follow in their footsteps. She’s also the fourth straight American woman to make it to a Grand Slam final, following Jessica Pegula’s runner-up finish at the US Open last year.
Anisimova will now face Iga Swiatek, the current world No. 2, in the Wimbledon final. It’s expected to be a tough challenge, but with her strong form and confidence, Anisimova is ready to fight for her first major title.
This win marks a big moment in Anisimova’s career, and American tennis fans will be hoping for another Grand Slam champion this weekend.
