HAFIZABAD, June 4, 2025 — In a chilling reminder of the moral decay gripping our nation, the past few days in Pakistan have witnessed a series of disturbing incidents that reflect a society in ethical freefall. From a viral video showing Mr. Faruki terrorizing a motorcyclist with his armed guards, to the tragic murder of a teen TikToker by a stalker in Islamabad, and now the horrific gang rape of a wife in front of her tied-up husband in Hafizabad — one is left asking: What happened to our conscience, our ethics, and our humanity?

In the latest incident, a couple traveling from Nowshera Virkan to Hafizabad stopped near Mangat Uncha to relieve themselves when they were abducted at gunpoint. The woman was then gang-raped in front of her husband, who was tied up and helpless. The assailants filmed the brutal act and later forced the couple into intimate acts under physical assault, also recording that footage and eventually leaking it online.

According to the FIR registered at Kasoki Police Station, the couple had stopped for a short break while returning from Nowshera Virkan when a group of armed men intercepted them. The assailants tied up the husband and took the woman to a nearby deserted area where three influential individuals sexually assaulted her, while one suspect, identified as Chand, recorded the assault on video.

After the gang rape, the perpetrators allegedly forced the couple into sexual acts under coercion, using violence and threats, and recorded that as well. They also robbed them of their valuables, including cash and mobile phones.

Initially, the couple remained silent out of fear and the influence of the powerful culprits. However, after the video was leaked online, the victims came forward and filed a complaint.

Four of the accused — Ikram, Laiq, Khawar, and Chand — have been named in the FIR, while four others remain unidentified. Reports suggest that one suspect is related to a police official, raising concerns about potential attempts to shield the perpetrators. In response, District Police Officer Atif Nazir has suspended the in-charge of Hamidpura Police Post for allegedly accepting a bribe to release one of the suspects.

Police have launched raids to arrest all eight individuals involved, and medical examinations of the victims have been completed. The incident has triggered nationwide outrage, with human rights activists and the public demanding swift justice and stricter action against law enforcement personnel found complicit.

This case adds to the growing concern about sexual violence in Pakistan and the misuse of power by influential individuals who often go unpunished. Civil society has called for exemplary punishment to ensure such heinous acts do not go unchecked.
