Lahore (Media Bites)- Students in Lahore are continuing their protest today over an alleged assault incident involving a female student at a private college. According to students, the incident at the Gulberg campus came to light when an intermediate teacher inquired about the student’s absence during class.
When some classmates tried to contact the girl, they found her phone switched off. Concerned, they reached out to her parents to check on her well-being. Her parents, in tears, informed them that their daughter had been sexually assaulted (rape) by a security guard and was now receiving treatment in the ICU.
The revelation triggered widespread concern among students, and the teacher was informed of the situation. The rest of the student body was also notified. In response, students organized a protest outside the college today. During the protest, the college’s security guards reportedly assaulted some female students. This prompted a large police presence at the scene, where negotiations with the students are currently underway.
Complaint not filed, suspect arrested
According to a statement by the DIG Operations on October 13, the Lahore police responded promptly to the tragic incident. The suspect, who had gone into hiding, was located and arrested within 10 hours.
A special team, led by DIG Operations Faisal Kamran, arrested the security guard from an area outside Lahore.
In an updated statement, police confirmed that they remain in contact with both the college administration and the protesting students. Some students sustained minor injuries in clashes with the security guards. Police officials are working with both the administration and students to uncover the facts of the case.
Police stated that they have reviewed all camera footage from the college, but so far, the incident has not been verified. Efforts are underway to locate the alleged victim and her family. Hospital records and CCTV footage from the college have been checked thoroughly.
Authorities further added that no one has identified any alleged victim yet, but discussions with students are ongoing, and every statement is being taken into consideration for the investigation. The police assured that legal action would be initiated immediately upon finding evidence, and all relevant parties will be informed promptly about any developments.
