Lahore(Media Bites)—On Friday, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced a series of health and welfare initiatives aimed at improving healthcare services in remote areas of the province and championing the rights and empowerment of women and girls.
During a special meeting on healthcare reforms, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed the rebranding of Basic Health Units (BHUs) as Maryam Nawaz Health Clinics, to enhance the quality of healthcare services in underprivileged regions.
She also approved the establishment of a Performance Management Framework and introduced Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to assess the performance of healthcare staff across the province. In addition, she gave the green light for creating cath labs in hospitals located in Mianwali, Jhang, Layyah, Attock, and Jhelum to improve specialized medical services in these areas.
Insulin for Children with Type 1 Diabetes
Addressing the need for diabetes care, the chief minister announced a groundbreaking initiative to deliver insulin directly to the homes of children diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes**. Special health cards will be created to ensure the timely and safe delivery of insulin.
“A government-approved company will handle the insulin supply, ensuring proper adherence to cold chain protocols and other necessary SOPs,” she said. The ‘Chief Minister Insulin for All’ pilot project will initially launch in three districts, including Lahore, with patients able to apply for the service via a dedicated app or helpline.
Women’s Empowerment Initiatives
In recognition of International Girls’ Day, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized the importance of empowering girls and women, reiterating that “daughters are a source of Allah’s mercy.” She encouraged girls to be bold in pursuing their dreams, assuring them that the government is fully committed to supporting their ambitions.

“Our daughters, sisters, and girls represent the future of this nation,” she stated. “It is both their right and our responsibility to help them realize their dreams and harness their talents.”
Maryam Nawaz highlighted several key programs under the Punjab government’s roadmap for the protection, education, and welfare of girls and women, including the introduction of e-bikes, virtual police stations, pink button safety features, pink games, and a scholarship program.
She underscored that the journey to provide a safe environment, quality education, and financial independence to the daughters of Punjab is ongoing, with a focus on ensuring every girl has the opportunity to turn her dreams into reality.
