Punjab Police officials have stated that a woman who spread misinformation regarding the alleged rape of a first-year student at a private college in Lahore has been arrested from Karachi.
According to police officials, a case was registered against the accused woman at Gulberg Police Station under the PECA Act, and she has been transferred from Karachi to Lahore.
In her initial statement to the police, the woman in custody claimed that she had uploaded the video on social media to gain views.
Police officials said that the accused, Sarah Khan, will be presented before the JIT to record her statement, and further investigations into the matter are ongoing.
According to Geo , police also mentioned that four cases have been registered for spreading the unverified news of the alleged assault of a first-year student at a private college in Lahore.
It should be noted that a few days ago, a video went viral on social media in which a woman claimed to be the mother of the private college student.
Additionally, it is worth remembering that the report by the government committee, formed to investigate the alleged rape of a private college student in Lahore, revealed that the matter had been sensationalized through social media posts.
According to the report, there was no solid evidence in the social media posts, and each post was based on hearsay and rumors. Upon receiving the information, the police contacted the college administration and even inspected the basement that had been mentioned in the alleged incident.
The report also noted that the police reviewed and seized CCTV footage and other recordings.
The committee’s report stated that during the investigation, it was discovered that a specific student’s video message was repeatedly used for the fabricated story. The girl told the committee that she wasn’t even a student of Campus 10.
