Zaman Khan has been drafted into the Brisbane Heat’s Big Bash League squad after Shaheen Shah Afridi was ruled out injured, marking a key shift in the team’s bowling plans this season.

Pakistan fast bowler Zaman Khan has been named as the replacement for injured compatriot Shaheen Shah Afridi in the Brisbane Heat squad for the ongoing Big Bash League season.
Afridi was ruled out of the remainder of the 2025–26 campaign last week after sustaining a knee injury, forcing the Heat to look for an experienced pace option mid-tournament.
Why Zaman Khan?
Brisbane Heat turned to the 24-year-old Khan due to his proven Big Bash credentials and his reputation as a wicket-taking bowler in the powerplay. Khan previously featured for Sydney Thunder, where his sharp pace and variations troubled several batting line-ups.
“He’s a genuine wicket-taker up front, but he can also control an over with his variations and pace,” Heat coach Johan Botha said. “Zaman has evolved his game and gives us extra options in key bowling periods.”
Khan has represented Pakistan in 10 T20 internationals and is also part of the Afridi-captained Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League.
Where and When Will He Play?
Zaman Khan is expected to make his first appearance for Brisbane Heat on Saturday at the Gabba, when the Heat face his former side, the Sydney Thunder. The Heat were last in action on Monday night in Coffs Harbour against the Sydney Sixers.
With Afridi sidelined, all eyes will be on Khan as he steps into a crucial role in Heat’s bowling attack during the business end of the BBL season.
