The Lux Style Awards (LSA), widely recognized as one of Pakistan’s most prestigious events, took an unusual turn this year when the nominations list omitted the country’s blockbuster hit, ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt.’
Upon the release of LSA’s nomination categories, social media users quickly noted the absence of the movie, which had finally hit the screens after a four-year delay.
Journalist Hassan Kazmi delved into the matter by speaking with producer Ammara Hikmat. Hikmat disclosed that while the film had been considered for awards, the decision to not submit it was a deliberate one, driven by strong reasons.
According to Hikmat, the film’s producers hesitated to submit it to an award show that lacked critical categories, notably those honoring the director and writer.
In her own words, Hikmat explained, “While we are honored that Lux considered our film for their nominations, we find that their limited range of film categories doesn’t align with our values. The absence of categories for best director or writer, etc., disregarding their major and substantial creative contributions, while including one for best playback song doesn’t resonate with our vision for comprehensive film recognition. Therefore, we’ve decided not to make an exception in this case.”
‘The Legend of Maula Jatt,’ which became Pakistan’s first film to cross the Rs 2000 crore mark at the box office, boasted a star-studded cast including Fawad Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Humaima Malick, and Mahira Khan. The movie also achieved international acclaim and resonated with audiences worldwide.
Released on October 13, the film serves as a modern-day reboot of the 1979 cult classic “Maula Jatt,” centering around the legendary rivalry between the local hero, Maula Jatt (Fawad Khan), and Noori Natt (Hamza Ali Abbasi), the leader of a ruthless gang. Mahira Khan portrays Mukkho, a spirited village woman who captures Maula Jatt’s heart.
