WEBDESK: Copenhagen has been named the world’s most livable city in 2025, overtaking Vienna, which previously held the top spot for years. According to the Economist Intelligence Unit’s Global Livability Index, the Danish capital scored an impressive 98.0, outperforming its European counterparts in stability, education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
Vienna fell to second place (97.1), followed by Zurich (97.1) in third and Melbourne (97.0) in fourth. Geneva secured the fifth spot with 96.8.
Three Australian cities — Melbourne, Sydney, and Adelaide — are in the Top 10, reflecting their strong healthcare, education, and lifestyle appeal. North America is represented by Vancouver, which came in at 10th.

Meanwhile, Al Khobar in Saudi Arabia jumped 13 places to 135th thanks to improvements in healthcare and education, while Calgary fell from 5th to 18th. Manchester, London, and Edinburgh also saw drops in their rankings.
Damascus remained at the bottom of the list — the least livable city — due to ongoing conflict and poor stability.

Karachi once again ranked in the bottom five of the world’s “least liveable cities” in a global survey by The Economist.
According to the Economist Intelligence Unit, the metropolis ranked 170 on a list of 173 countries — just above Dhaka, Tripoli and Damascus — and had a score of 42.7 on the index score, with a score of 100 being “most liveable”.
