For days, the brutal murder of a woman and her young daughter remained shrouded in confusion, influence, and unanswered questions. Whispers of power, rank, and protection surrounded the case, as the accused appeared to slip through scrutiny. But a determined, professional investigation by SP Investigation Cantt, Ms. Rahila Iqbal, ultimately exposed a chilling truth: the killer was not an outsider, but a serving Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) himself.
According to police officials, the Cantt Division Investigation Police, Lahore, under Ms. Iqbal’s supervision, launched a thorough, impartial, and evidence-driven probe into the double murder. The case, initially clouded by the accused’s senior position within the police, tested the institution’s credibility and resolve.
In the early stages, SP Investigation Model Town, interrogated the suspect, DSP Usman Haider Gujjar, and granted him a clean chit. That decision raised eyebrows within police circles and beyond, as inconsistencies in the narrative refused to fade.
The turning point came when the case was taken up by SP Cantt Investigation Ms. Raheela Iqbal, who approached the matter afresh — without regard for rank or reputation. She ordered a comprehensive re-examination of forensic, circumstantial, and testimonial evidence, and personally briefed SSP Investigation Naveed Qureshi on emerging contradictions.
Investigators say the methodical collection of forensic material, digital trails, and circumstantial links gradually dismantled the version initially presented by the accused. Under sustained questioning and mounting evidence, DSP Usman Haider Gujjar eventually disclosed the SSP Investigation and SP Cantt Investigation, confessing to the heinous crime.
Police sources confirm that the murders were an attempt by the accused to stage a narrative that would shield him from suspicion, exploiting his influence within the force. That effort ultimately failed.
“The successful tracing and arrest of the real culprit reflects the commitment of Lahore Police to uphold the rule of law,” a senior official said. “This case sends a clear message: no one is above the law, regardless of rank or position.”
The handling of the case has drawn particular attention to the role of Ms. Rahila Iqbal, whose investigation is being cited within police ranks as a rare example of professional courage, transparency, and institutional integrity in a sensitive, high-profile matter.
Further legal proceedings are now underway, and authorities say the accused will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.
Under the command of the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), Lahore Police has reiterated its commitment to justice, accountability, and the protection of citizens’ lives and rights — even when the alleged criminal wears the same uniform tasked with enforcing the law.
