Pakistan is gearing up for the introduction of 5G mobile phone connectivity in August 2024, driven by the growing demand for faster and more advanced telecommunications services.
The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has devised a comprehensive plan to facilitate this transition. They intend to enlist the expertise of an international consultant to assist with the project, establish a dedicated committee to steer the future of 5G technology in Pakistan, and formulate regulations governing the auction of 5G spectrum.
Drawing inspiration from successful models in countries like Bangladesh, they are committed to ensuring a competitive auction process, ensuring fairness rather than favoring a single company.
Prior to the auction, the ministry is actively addressing key challenges in the telecom sector, including ongoing court cases related to spectrum allocation. Incentives will be provided to telecom companies to encourage their participation in the auction.
To enhance the 5G infrastructure, efforts will also be made to streamline the process of opening Letter of Credits (LC) and expanding the deployment of fiber optic cables.
The impending launch of 5G in Pakistan signifies a significant milestone in the realm of technology. It is poised to revolutionize how people communicate and utilize the internet, ushering in transformative changes in areas such as healthcare, education, and transportation.
