The WhatsApp Motion Photos feature is coming to Android soon. Spotted in beta version 2.25.22.29, it captures a few seconds before and after you take a picture, along with sound. Similar to iPhone’s Live Photos, it brings still images to life.
WhatsApp Motion Photos feature are part picture, part mini-video. They preserve the frame you capture along with subtle movements and background audio — like laughter, rustling leaves, or ocean waves. This makes memories feel richer and more lifelike.
To use it, open your WhatsApp gallery and look for the motion icon at the top left of the photo preview. Send it as a motion photo or switch to still mode. The receiver will see the motion icon, showing it’s more than a static shot.
Previously, users had to rely on third-party apps or GIF conversions, often losing quality. This built-in option means smoother playback and smaller file sizes.
Right now, only Android beta testers with Samsung or Google Pixel’s Top Shot support can create them. Pixel users should note that 50MP mode will disable the feature. WhatsApp hasn’t announced a release date yet, and iOS users will have to wait longer.
