Sexual assault and harassment cases in Karachi are rising without any serious action being taken against the culprits, and another disgraceful incident occurred in the port city on August 1.
According to the CCTV footages, a woman, all covered in veil, was sexually assaulted by a man riding a motorcycle while she passed through a street in a neighbourhood near Madina Masjid in Federal B Area Block 17 on August 1. This disturbing incident was captured in surveillance cameras.
The clips doing rounds on the internet show a victim being subjected to sexual harassment in Karachi in a third such incident.
At 10:55 am, an incident occurred and was captured on CCTV, clearly revealing the culprit who easily escaped after the victim resisted and cried for help. Despite onlookers gathering, the harasser managed to evade apprehension before the police arrived.
Once again, the police’s efforts to catch the suspect were unsuccessful. They stated that no one has come forward to initiate an investigation, and the victim’s identity remains unknown. The authorities are now obtaining footage from other cameras in the vicinity to aid in the investigation.
Such incidents cannot end until the hands of these people are cut off

Karachi is facing an alarming and persistent trend of harassment against women since the first incident of street harassment in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, where a man was caught on camera sexually harassing a veiled woman in broad daylight. Subsequently, another incident occurred in Orangi Town. Although the police arrested the suspect in the Orangi Town case, the perpetrator behind the Jauhar incident is still at large.
Despite taking statements from over 100 individuals, the police have not made significant progress in arresting the suspect.
