The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has expressed its dissatisfaction with the current Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Najam Sethi, and is demanding his immediate replacement. The PPP is eager to reinstate former Chairman Zaka Ashraf, as they believe Sethi has failed to garner support from cricket boards regarding the upcoming Asia Cup 2023.
The PPP asserts that as they hold the Ministry for Inter-Provincial Coordination, they should have the authority to appoint the PCB Chairman. It should be noted that the PPP is part of the coalition government led by Shehbaz Sharif, with Ehsan Ur Rehman Mazari currently serving as the federal minister for IPC.
Najam Sethi took over the role last year after removing former cricketer Ramiz Raja from office and has since implemented several changes within the cricket board. Earlier this year, the committee led by Sethi restored the PCB Constitution of 2014 and reinstated all regional and district cricket associations and departments.
Media reports suggest that Zaka Ashraf is expected to be appointed as the new PCB Chairman by the federal government once the current tenure concludes later this month. The committee has recently announced an urgent briefing and presentation on the proposed new domestic structure and is anticipated to introduce innovative measures.
