A sharp confrontation is emerging between Donald Trump and Iran’s powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as the conflict between Washington and Tehran intensifies.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards warned that the United States will not decide when the war ends, insisting the final decision now lies with Tehran. At the same time, Trump said he does not trust Iran’s newly appointed supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, and questioned whether he could maintain peace.
Iran warns oil exports could be blocked
IRGC spokesman Ali Mohammad Naeini said Iran can escalate the war if US and Israeli attacks continue.
According to Iranian media, Naeini warned that not a single litre of oil would be allowed to leave the region if the strikes persist.
The threat raises alarm about disruption in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a narrow maritime corridor through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passes.
Iranian officials said Tehran possesses the military capacity to widen the conflict across the region if necessary.
Trump questions Iran’s new leader
Meanwhile, Trump signaled that diplomatic talks with Iran are possible but only under strict conditions.
He also expressed skepticism about Mojtaba Khamenei, saying he does not believe the new Iranian leader will be able to “live in peace” and suggesting Washington cannot fully trust him.
Trump had previously criticized the leadership transition in Tehran and described Khamenei as an unacceptable choice to lead the country.
Pentagon warns conflict could intensify
At the United States Department of Defense, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the war has entered its second week, and the United States will continue operations until its objectives are achieved.
The Pentagon also warned Russia against intervening in the conflict.
US military officials confirmed that American forces recently used heavy bunker-buster bombs to strike underground Iranian missile bases.
Iran claims battlefield gains
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards dismissed Trump’s claims that Iranian military capabilities had been destroyed.
According to Naeini, Iranian missile attacks on US bases and Israeli targets are continuing with greater intensity, including missiles carrying warheads weighing more than one ton.
He also claimed Iranian forces had destroyed several advanced US radar systems and shot down multiple American drones during the ongoing confrontation.
Rising regional tensions
With both sides exchanging threats and military operations expanding, analysts warn the confrontation between Washington and Tehran could push the Middle East toward a wider regional conflict.
The dispute over oil routes, missile strikes and leadership legitimacy now highlights two parallel conflicts, one on the battlefield and another in the political messaging war between the White House and Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.
