Real Madrid have officially confirmed that their newest signing, Trent Alexander-Arnold, will make his debut in the highly anticipated 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, scheduled to take place from June 15 to July 14.
The 26-year-old right-back, formerly of Liverpool, recently announced the move himself, calling it an emotional and difficult decision. “This is easily the hardest decision I have ever made in my life,” he stated.
The news was announced through Real Madrid’s official channels on May 30, 2025. Although the transfer was completed as a free move due to the expiration of Alexander-Arnold’s contract, Liverpool will receive a compensation fee of €10 million. A Liverpool spokesperson confirmed, “Liverpool will receive a fee for his services, with the deal to be concluded once the window opens on June 1.”
In addition, Real Madrid will pay Liverpool £333,000 for each remaining day on his contract. Alexander-Arnold has signed a six-year deal with the Spanish giants and is expected to be a key figure in their Club World Cup campaign.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have already begun planning for the future, with reports suggesting they are targeting Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong as a potential replacement in a deal worth approximately £29.5 million.
