A dramatic and lesser-known chapter from Pakistan’s film history has resurfaced, as veteran writer Nasir Adeeb recounts how a shocking “song deception” led to the unexpected marriage—and fiery split—between Malika-e-Tarannum Noor Jehan and actor Yousuf Khan.
According to Adeeb, the controversy began when filmmaker Younis Malik allegedly tricked Noor Jehan into recording a song under the pretense that it would be picturized on actress Anjuman. However, the song was instead intended for another actress, Firdous.
When Noor Jehan discovered the deception, she was reportedly furious and sent a stern message warning Malik to prepare for consequences. In a bid to defuse the situation, Malik turned to Yousuf Khan, requesting him to personally visit Noor Jehan and persuade her to forgive and continue the film’s remaining songs.
