Dear concerned, Is this the way to show commitment to conducting free and fair elections through an impartial caretaker government by appointing PMLN policy makers?
Consider the population of 250 million Pakistanis, and take a closer look at the individuals within the caretaker government:
- Tauqeer Shah: Previously served as Secretary to PMLN Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and was retained even after retirement on contract. He continues to hold the position of Secretary to Anwaar Kakar.
- Ahad Cheema: Former advisor to PMLN Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Establishment; he remains Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Establishment under Anwaar Kakar’s administration.
- Umar Saif: Known as the IT expert during the tenure of PMLN Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in Punjab, he has now been appointed as the Caretaker Minister for Science, Technology, and IT.
- Fawad Hasan Fawad: Another individual who served as Secretary to a PMLN Prime Minister, in this case, Nawaz Sharif, and is now part of the caretaker cabinet.
While we acknowledge the professional credentials of these four individuals, it is worth noting that they are closely associated with the PMLN party.
The PMLN appears to be the only party with inside information regarding the timing of elections, and they have been proclaiming that Nawaz Sharif has somehow received a clean chit regarding his conviction.
This situation strongly suggests that the caretaker government is operating as an extension of the PMLN’s previous 16-month tenure.
Unless the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) takes decisive action (they have already sent a letter but have not specified the required actions), it may further damage the ECP’s credibility in ensuring free, fair, and impartial elections.
