Pope Francis has been admitted to Rome’s Gemelli Polyclinic for treatment of bronchitis. The 88-year-old leader of the Catholic Church was taken to the hospital after his Friday audience for further tests and medical care. Despite being diagnosed with bronchitis last week Pope Francis continued with his engagements but his condition affected his ability to speak publicly.
The Pope’s health issues have been a subject of concern for quite some time now. He has faced several health challenges over the past two years including bouts of influenza and mobility issues. He often uses a walker cane or wheelchair in public and has recently suffered falls injuring his arm and chin. These health issues have raised questions about his ability to continue leading the Catholic Church.
According to Vatican officials Pope Francis is resting and improving and could be discharged from the hospital in the coming days. His hospitalization has sparked speculation about his future as the leader of the Catholic Church. However Vatican officials have reassured that the Pope is in good hands and is receiving the best possible care.
