The Teefi Butt encounter after extradition has sparked intense debate across Pakistan. Khawaja Tareef Gulshan, known as Teefi Butt, was killed in an alleged shootout with the Crime Control Department (CCD) just a day after being brought back from Dubai. He was a key suspect in the high-profile Ameer Balaj murder case.
According to the CCD, Teefi Butt was extradited from Dubai and arrived at Karachi Airport on October 10. The CCD team took his custody and began their journey to Lahore. Near Sanjarpur, District Rahim Yar Khan, armed men ambushed the police convoy and opened fire. One officer was injured, and the attackers managed to free Teefi Butt.
A few hours later, the CCD located two suspicious vehicles in Kot Sabzal. Another fierce exchange of gunfire broke out, lasting nearly 25 minutes. During the encounter, Teefi Butt was critically injured and later died on the way to the hospital. Two CCD officers also sustained injuries.
The Teefi Butt encounter after extradition has raised questions about security lapses and how the attackers managed to trace and intercept the police convoy. Authorities confirmed that operations are underway to arrest those involved in the attack.
Teefi Butt had been wanted in the murder of Ameer Balaj, who was shot dead near Thokar Niaz Beg in February 2024. After fleeing abroad, he was declared a proclaimed offender, and Interpol issued red warrants for his arrest. His death has now closed one chapter of a long-running murder investigation but has opened another — about accountability and police conduct.
