Teefi Butt’s arrest in Dubai marks a breakthrough in the Ameer Balaj Tipu murder case, as the JIT declares Gogi Butt guilty for planning and aiding the high-profile assassination.
WEBDESK — Law-enforcement sources say Khajawa Tareef alias Teefi Butt has been arrested in Dubai on the request of Punjab authorities in connection with the high-profile murder of Ameer Balaj Tipu.
The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing the case has meanwhile declared Khawaja Aqeel alias Gogi Butt guilty, alleging he played a key role in planning the assassination and maintained communication with Teefi.
Investigators claim that Gogi Butt, once a proclaimed offender, had absconded immediately after the killing in February 2024 but later secured interim bail. During questioning, he reportedly attempted to present his defence, but the JIT sources say evidence and witness statements firmly implicate him.
According to the JIT, Gogi Butt not only coordinated with Teefi Butt but also handled logistics, facilitated contacts with the shooters, and was active in prior violent incidents linked to the Tipu family. The team plans to seek cancellation of his bail at the next court hearing.
Ameer Balaj Tipu was fatally shot on Feb. 19, 2024, during a wedding ceremony in Lahore’s Chuhng area. The gunman — identified in reports as a former aide of Teefi Butt — opened fire as Tipu was leaving the venue. The attacker was shot dead on the spot by security personnel.
Earlier, in January 2025, a Lahore court formally charged two associates, Haroon and Sohail Mehmood, in connection with the case. At that time, Gogi Butt, Teefi Butt, and Bilawal were declared absconders.
With Teefi Butt now in custody, the focus is likely to shift to further unravelling the network behind the killing and ensuring accountability of all involved parties.
