A South Korean passenger plane, carrying approximately 173 passengers and 8 staff members, crashed during landing on its flight from Thailand to South Korea. After landing, the aircraft skidded off the runway and crashed into a wall, resulting in a fireball.
Reports indicate that around 179 passengers of the South Korean plane have died, with two transported to the hospital in serious condition.
Sources suggest that there was an issue with the plane’s landing gear. The aircraft attempted to land twice; the first attempt was unsuccessful, and on the second attempt, it veered off the runway and collided with a concrete wall, immediately engulfing the plane in flames. Some eyewitnesses claim that birds struck the plane before landing, causing the landing gear to malfunction.
The authorities are investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the crash. The tragic event has led to an outpouring of grief and calls for enhanced safety measures in air travel.
What was the reason behind the crash? A passenger’s text revealed
One of the passengers on the ill-fated plane that crashed Sunday morning sent a text message about the aircraft “not being able to land because of a bird on a wing,” in one of the last known texts sent to a family member.
A family member of one of the passengers aboard Jeju Air 7C 2216, which left at least 62 dead in a crash landing, received the text messages moments before the incident.
“A bird is stuck in the wing, and we can’t land. Just now. Should I leave my last words?” the passenger said in a 9 a.m. text conversation with a relative, who told local News1 that the passenger has remained unreachable since. It is unclear what happened with the passenger in question.
