South Africa stormed to a commanding nine-wicket win over West Indies in Ahmedabad, delivering another statement performance in the Super Eight stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
They controlled the contest from the outset, dominating the first ten overs with disciplined, incisive bowling. Although West Indies mounted a recovery to post 177, the total always felt under par on a good batting surface against a side in such ominous form.
The chase was clinical. South Africa sealed victory with 23 balls remaining and nine wickets in hand. Aiden Markram led from the front with a superb unbeaten 82 off 46 balls, dictating terms with authority and composure. Ryan Rickelton provided the perfect support, finishing not out on a fluent 45 from 28 deliveries. Quinton de Kock had earlier set the tone with a blistering 47 off 24 balls, ensuring the required rate never became a concern.
West Indies’ bowlers struggled to contain the onslaught, with all conceding over ten runs per over except Jason Holder.
Earlier, Kagiso Rabada’s sharp powerplay burst, Lungi Ngidi’s variations, and Wiaan Bosch’s spirited spell laid the foundation. South Africa remain the only unbeaten side in the tournament — and, increasingly, the team to beat.
