The Sindh Assembly on Monday observed one minute silence for the Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi who was killed in a helicopter crash. President Ebrahim Raisi was highly respected for his principled position on Israel’s attacks on Gaza and occupied Kashmir. Politicians from both sides of the divide sent their heartfelt condolences to the Iranian people and passed a motion to recognize him. The resolution was tabled by Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Zia Lanjar who expressed deep grief at the accident that resulted in the death of President Ebrahim Raisi , Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdullahian and others. It highlighted the strong and long-standing relations between Pakistan and Iran.
Shah praised Raisi’s role in representing the world and his leadership. Shah reminisced about the memorable visit of Raisi to Karachi in April – an honor and an inspiration. He referred to the loss as an unfortunate outcome not only for Iran but for all the Muslim countries and reaffirmed that Raisi is a key player in establishing stability in the region. Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan opposition leader Ali Khurshidi called Raisi’s death a great loss for Muslims around the world. He praised Raisi’s efforts to maintain stability in the region and hoped that this strong nation of Iran will overcome this terrible tragedy with courage.
In the assembly session, Minister Zia Lanjar proposed a motion to suspend the agenda and take up the condolence resolution. The motion was passed and members from all parties were free to give their tributes. Several prominent speakers of the PPP included Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Energy Minister Nasir Shah, and MQM-P’s Najam Mirza.

The consensus of the assembly was one of support for the Iranian people and maintaining Pakistan’s commitment throughout this time. Sindh Assembly’s condolences and tributes show the enduring friendship between the two countries.
