The Sharjah International Booksellers Conference, organized by the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), has kicked off with Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, Founder and CEO of Kalimat Group, and Immediate Past President of International Publishers Association, highlighting the need for sustainability in the book industry.
The two-day conference brings together a range of important players in the book industry from across the globe, including booksellers, publishers, authors,and industry luminaries.
Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi pointed out the environmental pressures, material shortages, andhyper-inflation of energy and other costs of business that are currently affecting the book industry. She stressed the importance of collaborative efforts in tackling these challenges, stating that no single publisher or bookseller can face these issues alone.
She also suggested that the conference is an opportunity to propose initiatives that could significantly change the way books are produced and distributed, while also allowing the industry to take the lead in sustainability efforts. The conference offers a platform for discussions on the book industry’s sustainability and highlights the need for the industry to come together to tackle the challenges it faces.
