In a heart-wrenching incident on Sunday afternoon, seven teenage girls lost their lives while swimming in the Kech River near Turbat.
The girls had gone for a picnic by the riverbank when the unfortunate event occurred. According to Turbat SHO Hakeem Baloch, one of the girls got caught in the deep waters and drowned, leading to a desperate attempt by her friends to save her.
Tragically, their efforts were in vain, and seven of the girls, aged between 10 and 17, drowned in the river. The victims were identified as Fiza, Faiza, Mahtap, Durdana, Bushra, Shireen, and Mahzeb. Fortunately, two of their friends were rescued from the river and are currently in stable condition, out of danger.
The local residents rallied together to retrieve the bodies from the river and transport them to the hospital. After completing medico-legal formalities, the bodies were handed over to their respective families, who are undoubtedly devastated by the sudden loss of their loved ones.
Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. He urged the district administration to provide full support and necessary assistance to the affected families during this difficult time.
This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of water safety and vigilance during recreational activities near bodies of water. The community mourns the loss of these young lives and stands in solidarity with the grieving families in their time of sorrow.
