Muhammad Asim Siddique, a seasoned senior journalist, has recently joined Samaa TV as Head of Digital Media.
With over 15 years of experience in the field of journalism, his expertise spans various prominent media outlets. Prior to his current position, he held the position of Head of Digital Media at Daily Times, Capital TV, and Business Plus TV. He played a pivotal role in establishing digital platforms for notable figures such as Hassan Nisar, Sami Ibrahim, Safma, and numerous other digital media sources.
Asim Siddique is not only a practitioner but also a mentor, contributing significantly to the development of digital journalism. He has actively engaged as a trainer, imparting valuable knowledge to fellow journalists on the touches of digital media monetisation.
Technical Capacity
His training sessions involve a wide topics, including Data Journalism, Digital Security, News Writing and Reporting, Feature Writing, Newsroom Management, and specialised areas like Gender-Based Violence reporting and Investigating Misinformation. He has also been involved in training related to managing social media, handling issues of community guidelines, trademarks, copyrights, and optimising content for search engines and social media platforms.
Experience
It is worth mentioning here that Asim Siddique served as a Social Media Manager (Web Editor) at Daily Times-Media Times Ltd. In this capacity, he formulated and executed comprehensive social media strategies and campaigns for several prominent media outlets, such as Daily Times, Business Plus TV, Sunday Magazine, TGIF magazine, and Aajkal Newspaper.
He also presented his leadership skills as the Head of Digital/Social Media at Capital TV. His role also involved collaboration with various teams, including marketing, sales, and production, to ensure a cohesive digital presence. He demonstrated his creative acumen by suggesting and implementing novel features to enhance brand recognition, such as promotional campaigns and competitions.
Asim Siddique’s influence extends beyond individual media outlets. He has left an indelible mark as a trainer associated with “Media Matter for Democracy,” further contributing to the growth of responsible journalism. His expertise also extends to the realm of digital platforms, having extensively worked with Facebook Meta.
Education
In terms of his academic achievements, Asim Siddique recently completed his PhD research work from the University of Technology Malaysia, a testament to his commitment to advancing his understanding of media and its digital landscape.
In an exclusive interview with Media Bites, Muhammad Asim Siddique defined his strategic plans to elevate Samaa TV to greater heights within the media industry. “Since assuming my role, I set up a localised digital marketing approach, projecting a substantial revenue increase of 15 to 20 million,” he mentioned.
“Samaa TV’s digital media sector promoted with viewership experiencing a remarkable twofold surge as confirmed by analytics. Both YouTube and Facebook viewership have maintained a highest across Pakistan over the past three days,” he said while sharing his progress after assuming office.
To a question about his future plans, Asim Siddique maintained that he has scheduled many trainings for 50 staff members under the MMFD, CEJ-IBA and other prominent institutions, in which, the media giants will impart their invaluable expertise on optimising content for YouTube and Facebook algorithms. “This initiative seeks to equip Samaa TV’s team with the skills required to masterfully curate and distribute content, ensuring maximum visibility and resonance within the digital sphere,” he said.
