A very sad and tragic incident recently occurred in India, where a 35-year-old railway employee lost his life in Bihar’s Begusarai district at Barauni Junction station. The tragic accident happened during a shunting operation, where the worker became trapped between the train’s engine and one of the coaches.
The accident took place as Amar Kumar Raut, the employee, was decoupling the engine of the Lucknow-Barauni Express (Train No. 15204). The train had reached Barauni Junction and was supposed to undergo an engine reversal. However, during the decoupling process, the train driver unexpectedly reversed the engine, causing Amar to become crushed between the engine and the coach. Sadly, he died on the spot.
Passengers alerted the driver, who stopped the engine but then fled the scene. A video of the incident shows Amar crushed between the engine and the power car while the train stood on platform No. 5 at Barauni Junction.
Upon receiving news of the accident, senior officials from the India Railway Division arrived at the scene and ordered a formal inquiry into the incident. An officer-level investigation has been started, and funeral expenses for Amar’s family have been released, with additional compensation to follow according to service regulations.
The Railway officer further stated that appropriate action will be taken against the driver and that safety improvements will be made once the inquiry is complete. Railway authorities have also convened a meeting at Barauni Junction with all departments to ensure strict compliance with safety protocols during train operations.
