Due to a dangerous heat wave, the education minister of Punjab announced summer vacations for all public and private schools in the province from May 22. This decision comes after collecting feedback from many parents where 96% of them agreed to this move in order to save their children from the harsh weather conditions.
In a video message, Minister Hayat has highlighted the need for students’ health and safety during this heat wave. He remarked, “Student safety is our number one concern. With temperatures so high we must be proactive in protecting our students. “.
Early summer vacation refers to all public and private educational institutions excluding those that are currently holding examinations. Educational institutions conducting exams have been given conditional waivers to operate only to facilitate these tests.
An official communication concerning the early holidays will also be issued shortly. Earlier the provincial government had said summer vacation would be from June 1 to August 14 and schools would reopen on August 15. This applied to government and private schools.
Educational institutions had reduced their operating time to mitigate the effects of this heat on students and staff. Schools were instructed to operate from 7am to 11:30am from Monday to Thursday to avoid excessive exposure to the midday sun.
The decision to start summer holidays early emphasizes the determination of the government to protect students from harm. This is a proactive measure to ensure that children are protected against the harmful impacts of heatwaves as they emerge.
