Late at night on Srinagar Highway, four Rangers soldiers were run over by a vehicle, leading to the deployment of the military in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad. Following the incident, the capital administration activated Article 245 and called in the military, granting them powers to impose a curfew if necessary.
As per security sources that a fast-moving vehicle deliberately ran over the Rangers personnel, resulting in the death of four officials, including three Rangers and one FC personnel. Five Rangers and police officers were also severely injured.
Federal Interior Minister of Pakistan Syed Mohsin Naqvi, speaking to the media, said that protestors would not be allowed to seize control of the city. He warned that if necessary, Article 245 would be invoked, a curfew would be imposed, or any other extreme measures would be taken. Capital police reported that protestors had attacked security personnel, resulting in the deaths of four Rangers and two police officers, while more than a hundred others were injured.
Meanwhile, clashes between PTI protesters and security forces were reported at various locations. At Chungi Number 26, workers of PTI allegedly attacked the media, breaking the windows of several news vehicles and attacking them with rods. Media persons barely escaped the mob and sought refuge in different areas.
