The auction for two new franchises in the Pakistan Super League concluded on a high note on Tuesday, with Sialkot emerging as the most expensive new team at Rs185 crore, while Hyderabad was sold for Rs175 crore, according to officials.
The high-stakes bidding took place at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad under the supervision of the Pakistan Cricket Board, bringing an end to a closely watched auction process that began with a base price of Rs110 crore per franchise.
The final results came hours after former Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen withdrew from the bidding, reducing the number of contenders to nine and triggering debate over his exit. Despite that development, competition remained intense, with bidders pushing prices well beyond the reserve.
The successful bidders will now proceed with franchise formalities as the PSL moves toward expansion, adding two new city-based teams ahead of the league’s next season.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who formally opened the auction earlier in the day, hailed the outcome as a strong signal of the PSL’s growing commercial value and long-term sustainability.
With Sialkot and Hyderabad officially joining the league, the PSL’s footprint is set to widen—marking a significant milestone in Pakistan cricket’s flagship tournament.
