Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), on Sunday reached an understanding on implementing the terms of their power-sharing agreement in a phased manner.
According to media reports, this was decided in a meeting of both parties and the discussion focused on the written accord that forms the basis of their alliance within the government.
Based on information from people with inside knowledge, the parties have decided to put some parts of the agreement into effect right away, while the remaining portions will be gradually introduced with set timelines for each stage. One important aspect of the meeting was the agreement to ensure that PPP is kept informed about future laws, financial choices, and policy development.
The accord also involves a pledge to work together for the stability of the nation. Reports suggest that in Punjab, areas where PPP has power will witness the selection of officials who share their views. Furthermore, PPP has also confirmed that PML-N representatives will be granted a fair portion of development funds.
The gathering, which took place at the Governor’s House, was co-chaired by PML-N leader Ishaq Dar and PPP leader Raja Pervez Ashraf. Some other prominent people present were Rana Sanaullah, Maryam Aurangzeb, Azam Nazir Tarar, and Malik Ahmed Khan from PML-N, and Raja Hasan Murtaza, Punjab Governor Sardar Salim Haider, Nadeem Afzal Chan, and Ali Haider Geelani (via video link) representing PPP.
After the meeting, PPP leader Hasan Murtaza spoke to the media, stressing that PPP is not aiming for a bigger portion of the government, despite what some people may think. He made it clear that both parties aim to bolster their alliance and improve governance. The topic of law and order and inflation in the province was also discussed at the meeting.
Murtaza emphasized that PPP supports solutions for the long run instead of quick fixes, and reaffirmed that PPP is not trying to get ministerial roles in Punjab.
